Teaching Philosophy:

As a teacher, facilitator of learning, and life-long learner, I believe that students must be given the freedom to learn in a way that suits them best within parameters that I have established for them. I will provide a safe and welcoming classroom in which my students are free to explore, imagine, create, discuss, and celebrate diversity in learning and otherwise. As I interact with students and students interact with each other, I will make sure that we are surrounded by an atmosphere of respect. I believe that all students can achieve success in grasping even the most difficult concepts if they work hard enough. In my classroom, students will have a sense of ownership of their learning by recognizing how they learn best, and I will support each student’s learning style through differentiation. Students will not read and analyze literature in a vacuum, but they will apply concepts and situations from the literature to the real world and gain unique perspectives on the various situations life brings us. I believe that the literature we read in class is relevant to the students, thus engaging them even further. When writing, I want to allow students to find their own voices and use these voices to convey their thoughts in any writing form, whether it is through narrative, literary analysis, or argumentative essays. My goal is to establish a classroom environment that always demonstrates learning, problem-solving, and real-world application, and provide instruction that is engaging, encouraging, and supports a growth mindset.

About Me:

I began teaching as an instructor of English and composition at the university level for four years. This will be my fifth year teaching ELA and Social Studies at the Huda Academy. I recently received my teaching license for the state of Arkansas in ELA and Social Studies for grades 4-8. John and I have been married for three years, and we have a one-year-old son named Jack Reza. I love spending time with my family and friends, reading, baking, and playing the cello. I also love to teach!
